1st Quarter 2017
Hello 48th Alumni,
Preserving the spirit and camaraderie among those who have and those now serving with the 48th Hospital Lakenheath / Mildenhall, England.
Late Start Newsletter for 2017 due to the UK plaque projects. As some may know we decided to do two plaques, one for the Royal British Legion and one for the Lakenheath Hospital.
The British Legion is set for September 2 with a ceremony of locals, and representatives, myself and Tom Prestopnik our events master of ceremonies. Details for joining us please reply to my email address with any questions you may have and I will forward the information about travel and room accommodation's most of which you're on your own as this is a low budget operation. I will help all I can if you're really interested in being there.
The artwork for the two plaques was a challenge due to my limited skills in the realm of today's computer knowledge, so after weeks of trying to make it work I finally gave up and got help. It's a good thing we have a lot of advance months before the final presentation date..
I've just sent off a letter to the Hospital Commander at Lakenheath asking for his approval of the date and time that we can make our presentation to his office. I requested September 4th thru the 6th.
I will be requesting the release for fabrication within the next 2 weeks as soon as my next meeting with them to mutually approve the artwork I have submitted.
Plaque Donors, there were 35 in total and each person will receive a unit Label pin and a photograph of each plaque.
We will be purchasing a new shipment of 48th Lapel pins so that each member will receive one with payment of whatever the member feels comfortable with. Suggested is $10. NOTE. Some members sent in dues payment with their donation for the plaques and will also receive a unit pin. Delivery is not expected for another 8 to 10 weeks.
Those who have donated dues for this 2017 year.
Gladys Estolas, Joe Schable, Tom Harmon
Now you can see where your dues are spent including postage. An example in mailing one Lapel pin cost $2.62 just for postage plus the packaging.
